Cookie & Tracking Policy

Last Updated: September 12, 2025

This Cookie & Tracking Policy explains how Kiddo (“we” or “us”) uses cookies and similar technologies on our website and in our software platform. It is intended to be read together with our Privacy Policy, which provides further information about our data processing. By using our site or services, you agree that we can use cookies and similar tracking technologies in accordance with this policy.

1. What are Cookies and Why We Use Them
Cookies
are small text files that websites place on your device (computer, smartphone, etc.) when you visit. They are widely used to make websites work or to work more efficiently, as well as to provide information to the site owners or to remember things about you for future visits.

We use cookies for several reasons:

  • Essential Functions: Some cookies are necessary for our site and service to function properly. For example, when you log into Kiddo, we set a session cookie so you remain logged in as you navigate between pages. Without this, you would have to login on every page. These cookies also help us provide features like user account preferences and ensure our site’s basic functionality.

  • Preferences: We use cookies to remember your preferences and settings. For instance, cookies may recall your preferred language, or whether you have seen and closed an announcement banner so it doesn’t keep showing up. This makes your experience on Kiddo more convenient.

  • Analytics and Performance: We use analytics cookies to collect information about how users interact with our website, such as which pages are visited, how long users stay, and any issues encountered (like error messages). This information helps us improve the design, content, and performance of our site. For example, we might use Google Analytics which sets cookies to track pageviews and provide aggregated insights — e.g., which features are most popular. We use these insights to make Kiddo better over time.

  • Communication and Support: If our site offers a chat support widget or similar tool, cookies might be used to manage that connection. For example, remembering if you’ve already provided your name in a live chat so you don’t have to repeat it, or keeping a chat session active as you browse.

  • Marketing (Limited): Currently, Kiddo does not host third-party ads and we do not use third-party advertising cookies on our logged-in platform. On our public marketing website, we may use cookies for limited marketing purposes – for example, if we run ads on Google or social media to attract new customers, we might use cookies to measure ad conversions or to retarget those who visited our site. Any such cookies would be primarily from the platform where we advertise (like Google Ads or Facebook) and would only be used to promote Kiddo’s own services. We do not sell or share personal data collected via cookies with unrelated third parties for their own advertising.

2. Types of Cookies We Use
Cookies can be categorized by their duration and by their source.

  • Duration:

    • Session Cookies: These cookies are temporary and expire once you close your browser or log out. They’re used for things like remembering you’re logged in during that session.

    • Persistent Cookies: These cookies remain on your device for a set period of time or until you delete them. We use persistent cookies for remembering preferences or settings so they persist between sessions. For example, a persistent cookie might store your login email for convenience (if you choose “remember me”), or keep track of whether you’ve acknowledged our cookie banner so it doesn’t show every time.

  • Source:

    • First-Party Cookies: These are cookies set by Kiddo (the domain you are visiting, like kiddosoftware.com). They are generally used for core functionality and preferences.

    • Third-Party Cookies: These are set by domains other than Kiddo, typically when we embed content or integrate services. For instance, analytics cookies from Google or a video embedded from YouTube (which might set its own cookies).

Below is a summary of the cookie categories:

Essential Cookies (First-Party)
These cookies enable core functionality such as user authentication and account management. Without these, our service may not work properly. For example:

  • SessionID – remembers your login session (expires after X hours of inactivity or when you log out).

  • XSRF-TOKEN – a security cookie to prevent cross-site request forgery, ensuring that the actions you take on the site are by you and not a malicious script.

  • Preference cookies like kiddo_lang – stores your language or region choice (persistent for a few weeks).

These do not collect personal data for marketing; they’re just to keep the service running securely.

Analytics Cookies (Third-Party)
We use these to understand how our services are used. Examples:

  • _ga, _gid (Google Analytics cookies) – used to distinguish users and gather site usage statistics. They assign a random ID to aggregate page visits, etc. (Persistent cookies: _ga may last 2 years unless you clear it; _gid lasts 24 hours).

  • _gat (Google Analytics) – used to throttle request rate (persistent for a minute or so).

  • We may use an in-app analytics like Mixpanel or Heap; those might set similar identifiers to track feature usage. If so, they would be listed here.

These analytics cookies do not reveal personally identifying information; they mostly collect aggregated data like device type, browser version, user flows, etc. IP addresses might be processed but we anonymize or truncate IP for privacy where possible.

Support/Interaction Cookies (First or Third-Party)
If we have, say, an Intercom chat widget or similar:

  • intercom-id-... – to maintain a user session in the chat, persistent for a few days.
  • These help recall previous support chats or messages.

If we don’t use such a service currently, this category might be empty.

Advertising/Marketing Cookies (Third-Party)
As of now, we have limited use:

  • If we use Google Ads conversion tracking: a cookie might be set on our “Thank you for signing up” page to tell Google that a user who clicked an ad completed signup. That cookie (like *_gcl_aw*) would persist for about 90 days.

  • If we use Facebook Pixel for retargeting: a cookie _fbp might be set to identify visitors for showing Kiddo ads on Facebook later. Lifespan ~90 days.

These cookies enable us to measure ad effectiveness and reach interested audiences. They do not give us personal details like your name or specific browsing beyond our site; they mainly note that a device/browser visited our site so an ad can be tailored. You can opt out as described below.

3. Your Choices: Managing Cookies
Consent Banner:
When you first visit our site (especially if required by law in your region), you will see a cookie notice. We may give you the option to accept all cookies or customize your preferences (e.g., accept only necessary and analytics, decline marketing, etc.). Your choices will be remembered via a cookie that stores your preferences. If you opt out of certain cookie categories, we will honor that.

Browser Controls: Most web browsers allow you to control cookies via their settings. You can usually:

  • Clear all cookies or cookies from specific sites.

  • Block third-party cookies (which prevents cookies from domains different than the one in the address bar).

  • Set Do Not Track (though as mentioned in our Privacy Policy, our site may not respond to DNT signals because there’s no consensus, but blocking cookies at the browser level will still work).

Be aware that if you disable cookies entirely, our site’s essential features (like logging in) may not work.

Opt-Out Tools:

  • Google Analytics: Google provides an opt-out browser add-on (https://tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout) if you don’t want to be tracked by GA on any website. We also respect if you decline analytics cookies on our site; we won’t load GA in that case.

  • Advertising: If we use Google or Facebook cookies, you can opt-out of personalized ads via tools: Google’s Ads Settings (https://adssettings.google.com) and Facebook’s Ad Preferences. Additionally, industry opt-out sites like http://optout.aboutads.info and http://optout.networkadvertising.org allow you to opt out of many advertising cookies from participating companies. Note that opting out does not mean no ads; it just means they won’t be personalized using cookie data from your browser.

Mobile Apps: If you use a mobile device, it may not use cookies the same way browsers do, but it might use device identifiers. You can reset advertising identifiers on your phone (in iOS under Privacy > Advertising, or in Android under Google settings > Ads) and limit ad tracking.

4. Similar Technologies
We not only use cookies, but also web beacons/pixels and local storage:

  • Web Beacons: These are tiny graphic images or code snippets (also known as clear GIFs or tracking pixels) embedded in emails or web pages. For example, our system might include a beacon in an email to a Parent to notify us if they opened it (for operational emails like “Invitation to enroll”). This helps us gauge engagement or deliverability. You can prevent this by not downloading images in emails, if concerned.

  • Local Storage & Session Storage: These are browser features that allow sites to store data. We might use local storage to save certain settings (like a checkbox state) or caching data for performance. Unlike cookies, this data isn’t sent automatically to our servers but is accessed by your browser. You can usually clear it via browser settings (clearing cached data).

  • SDKs in Mobile App: If Kiddo offers a mobile app, we may include analytics or crash reporting SDKs (software development kits). These serve a similar role to cookies by collecting usage data. For example, a crash report might include device model and OS version. You typically can’t remove an SDK except by uninstalling the app, but we only use reputable SDKs (like Firebase Analytics) and will detail them in the app’s privacy disclosure.

5. Third-Party Websites and Cookies
Our site might include content and scripts from third-party services. For example, playing a video hosted on Vimeo or YouTube, or a map from Google Maps, or social media “share” buttons. These third parties may set their own cookies on your device when you interact with their content. We do not control these cookies – their usage is governed by the third party’s privacy/cookie policies. For instance, YouTube may set cookies to track video views or remember volume settings, etc.

If you navigate from our site to a third-party site (e.g., a blog link to an external resource), that site will have its own cookie practices. We encourage you to review those sites’ policies. Kiddo’s Privacy Policy and this Cookie Policy do not cover the practices of any websites or apps that we do not control.

6. Updates to This Policy
We may update this Cookie & Tracking Policy to reflect changes in the cookies we use or for other operational, legal, or regulatory reasons. The “Last Updated” date at the top will indicate when it was last revised. Material changes may be highlighted on our website (for example, via a banner or re-prompting cookie consent). We recommend that you review this policy periodically to stay informed about our use of cookies.

If you have any questions about our use of cookies or other tracking technologies, you can reach out to us as described in the contact section below.
